The Maryland Association for Institutional Research is excited to announce our 2023 Summer Workshop!
MdAIR is committed to bringing relevant, responsive, and timely enrichment and professional development opportunities to our membership. In keeping with that commitment, we are pleased to announce the implementation of a new yearly summer workshop series. To kick of this yearly tradition, we will be hosting the first ever Summer Enrichment Series!
This year's event will take place on:
Date: August 4, 2023
Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Location: Loyola University of Maryland's Timonium Campus.
Breakfast will be served from 9:00 until the start of the event. The college is located at 2034 Greenspring Drive, Timonium, Md. 21093. Additional details about location and parking will be provided closer to the event.
Our workshop will be centered around the book: Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men. (ISBN-10: 1784706280; ISBN-13: 978-1784706289)
"Data is fundamental to the modern world. From economic development, to healthcare, to education and public policy, we rely on numbers to allocate resources and make crucial decisions. But because so much data fails to take into account gender, because it treats men as the default and women as atypical, bias and discrimination are baked into our systems. And women pay tremendous costs for this bias in time, money, and often with their lives.
Celebrated feminist advocate Caroline Criado Perez investigates the shocking root cause of gender inequality and research in Invisible Women, diving into women's lives at home, the workplace, the public square, the doctor's office, and more. Built on hundreds of studies in the US, the UK, and around the world, and written with energy, wit, and sparkling intelligence, this is a groundbreaking, unforgettable expose that will change the way you look at the world."
While purchasing and reading the book is not required for participating in the workshop and discussion, MdAIR highly encourages registrants to obtain a copy the book personally or through your office. You may have access to the book through your local public library and/or institutional library.
